Rocks from Mars

On our travels for Thanksgiving, we were able to see a lot of family.  Family makes me smile.  At one of our stops we learned a lot – about Norway, where Ken’s sister and her husband will be living for six months, about rocks from Mars, which Ken’s brother-in-law works with as part of his job, about names and remembering them, about South Africa where our niece spent a semester abroad, etc.

It’s amazing when you visit someone who you don’t see often, they have so many things to teach you about what they are doing and what’s important to them.

While we were there we got to hold a rock from Mars in our hands.  It was sliced and polished and placed between two pieces of glass so it could be easily examined with a microscope.

Things like that take a while to sink in….I was holding a rock from another planet in my hand.

It’s exciting to talk to family and friends and learn new things – it opened my perspective and gave me something to smile about!
